Yvonne Klan was born in a logging camp near Victoria, BC in 1930. Her father cut the umbilical cord while her 17–year–old mother read him the instructions from the St. John Ambulance handbook. She developed her literary tastes in the bunkhouses of her youth, where it wasn't uncommon for rough–hewn loggers to spend their evenings reciting bunkhouse ballads. She lives in North Vancouver and works as a writer.
